Redmi Note 12120W fast charging is more than 4 times faster than Tesla (Included tests)

Redmi has released a new generation of the Redmi Note 12 series.

By convention, the Note series focuses on odd-numbered performance, while even-numbered ones focus on photography, looks, and other bells and whistles.

The Note 12 series has indeed played a lot of tricks, such as this time the whole series of OLED, Pro and Pro+ have added movie-style photography and so on.

We got the coolest one in this work, the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition, featuring 210W fast charging.

The phone claims to start charging from 2% and can be charged to 100% in 9 minutes.

In order to achieve an unprecedented charging speed of 210W, Xiaomi built a particularly powerful dual-cell 4300mAh battery for this phone, and also arranged 3 parallel 100W charging chips.

We roughly calculated that charging a 4300mAh (4.3Ah) battery with 210W 5V means that the charging rate of the battery is properly close to 10C. That may not be intuitive, let’s look at the data for other common lithium-ion batteries.

Tesla’s 250kw fast charge looks very outrageous, but in fact, the charging rate of the model 3 battery pack is only 2 to 3C.

Even if the model aircraft battery powered by the high-power small motor can be discharged at 20 to 40C, the charging is generally only 5C to the end, and it is not dare to go higher. Such a comparison, does it seem that Xiaomi’s battery is a bit outrageous this time.

In addition to the specially designed battery, Xiaomi’s engineers also used some other means.

For example, in order to dissipate heat, the three charging chips are distributed in two positions to avoid heat concentration.

Still for heat dissipation, a total of 30000mm² of heat dissipation material was used, and the middle frame was replaced with an aluminum alloy material.

And this time the charging cable and charger are also customized.

The charging cable adopts a customized 10.5A specification, and the internal terminals of the Type C interface adopt an enhanced platinum plating process, which is more resistant to electrolytic corrosion of high current.

The Note 12 Explorer Edition charger is even more weighty, and it is filled with glue to dissipate heat, so that the weight can compete with some laptop chargers.

Can this mobile phone charger of the same level as the laptop charge the laptop?

To do this, we ran a test with the following results:

This power supply supports Xiaomi’s proprietary PPS (Programmable Power Supply) protocol, supports 3.6-20V gears, and has a maximum current of 10.5A. 210W is calculated like this.

But if you want to charge other devices, then it supports up to 65W PD fast charging, which can’t reach the 100W charging power of most notebooks on the market.

Although 65W is not unusable, I still hope that these charging heads will be more compatible with open standards in the future, rather than encircling themselves.

After reading the compatibility of this Big Mac, let’s go back to the main body.

Using the original charger to charge the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition, can it be fully charged in nine minutes as claimed by Xiaomi?

Go directly to the test results:

The phone starts charging from 2%, peaking at 170-180W, for 35 seconds; then 140W, 20 seconds; then 130W, one minute;

After that, the shock went down to 65W, and the trickle charging started at 12 and a half minutes. It ended up filling in 14 and a half minutes, 61% slower than the claimed 9 minutes.

This result is too unexpected, we suspect that some default settings are not adjusted to the “running score” state.

So I tried my best, spent five or even four hours, built the 14-minute full charge, adjusted the settings, and tried to run again.

We can take this 14.5-minute score and compare it with the 160W fast charging score of the friend OnePlus Ace Pro.

The OnePlus Ace Pro is equipped with a 4800mAh battery, and the original charger uses a 160W SUPERVOOC flash charge.
This charging starts from 5%, the peak charging power is 130W, and it is maintained between 50-60W most of the time, and it is fully charged in about 22 and a half minutes. From this point of view, its average charging power is only 70% of the Redmi Note 12 Explorer Edition.

In terms of total charging time, 22 and a half minutes is quite satisfactory, and compared to 14 and a half or 9 minutes, the experience is not much different.

However, even without mentioning 210W charging, the Redmi Note 12 Explorer Edition and Note 12 Pro+ still have a lot of highlights, and taking pictures is one of them.

This time, the Redmi Note 12 Discovery Edition launched the 200-megapixel Samsung HPX 1/1.4-inch outsole sensor. Whether it is 200 million pixels or a 1/1.4-inch outsole, it used to be the configuration of the image flagship.

In addition, the main camera is also equipped with a 7P coated lens, f/1.65 large aperture and OIS optical image stabilization, which optimizes the performance of shooting in sports and in low light and backlight.

In addition, this main camera also supports 4-in-1 1.12μm pixels and 16-in-1 2.24μm large pixels, which can achieve three camera modes of 12.5 million pixels / 50 million pixels / 200 million pixels.

What’s more distinctive is that Xiaomi has launched a variety of film cameras this time, which restores the texture of the film to a certain extent.

Of course, I think the current film texture is a little bit. . . Even, not like real film. Looking forward to subsequent OTA optimizations.

In addition to taking pictures, the Redmi Note 12 Explorer Edition is also equipped with a very good domestic OLED screen.

This screen adopts the diamond-like arrangement of several domestic manufacturers, has a peak brightness of 900nit, supports 160 million levels of dimming, 10bit color depth, 100% P3 color gamut, hardware-level low blue light, Dolby Vision, HDR 10+ and other features .

This bunch of stuff had to be found on mid-to-high-end machines before.

Of course, DC dimming has not yet come to it, but the high-frequency PWM of 1920Hz is also a good level in the industry.

However, as a 2000+ gear mobile phone, it has heaped up materials on the camera, screen and bells and whistles, so the performance.

As for some other configurations, the Redmi Note 12 Explorer Edition still continues the fine tradition of the Redmi series, equipped with full-featured NFC, a very advanced infrared remote control and an era-leading 3.5mm headphone jack.

All in all, Redmi’s positioning of the Note 12 series this time is very clear. At the price of 2000 to 2500, there are too many mobile phones that can be used to play games well, but it is really difficult for Tony to pick a good one for taking pictures.

And Redmi is going to sell you this this time, giving people who are cash-strapped a good choice at a price of 2000+.

At present, the Redmi Note 12 Exploration Edition is only 200 yuan more expensive than its prototype Redmi Note 12 Pro+, but it can directly buy a 65W PD-compatible charger and an aluminum alloy middle frame with a better feel.

It is recommended that friends who want to buy Redmi Note 12 Pro+ directly add money to the Discovery Edition.
