Some information about the iPhone 15 from Apple retail stores and employees in 2023

Rumor has it that at least one Apple Store in the UK is expecting unusually high foot traffic next fall and the holiday period, a timeframe expected to include the launch of the iPhone 15 series. However, it is normal for Apple to release new products every fall.

Employees at Apple Milton Keynes have been advised that they will not take any leave from September 15, 2023 to October 7, 2023 and from December 2, 2023 to the beginning of January 2024. Requests for time off during this “embargo” period will not be authorized by the store manager. While foot traffic in retail stores always increases when new Apple devices, especially new iPhone models, are introduced in the fall, during the holiday season, the latest indication appears to be a clear change in protocols in the region.

Apple typically prohibits vacations prior to new device releases and during holidays, which are often communicated directly to employees within a short period of time via an internal Apple communications app. The latest change, a ban on early one-year leave, has been communicated more covertly through a memo issued locally.

Store managers claim the order came from the “above the store” level, but retail employees aren’t sure exactly where the order came from within Apple’s hierarchy. The change has been presented to employees in “high-speed moments” “to ensure we are ready for next year”.

It’s unclear how widespread the new directive will be, but the dates were apparently chosen discriminately, possibly in anticipation of new Apple devices launching in the second half of next year and increasing foot traffic during the holiday season.

It is highly unlikely that there will be any firm date for the release date of the iPhone 15 series, as the devices themselves may still need to undergo production validation testing before a mass production timeline can be confirmed. Still, it’s worth noting that Apple’s retail stores have moved up quite a few dates that could be tied to the launch of new devices later next year.
